NICC/Asian Employers’ Organisations Workshop on “Strengthening Management Capability of SMEs in Asia Focusing on Recruitment and Development of Human Resources in the Circumstance of Growing Needs for Competitiveness and Productivity”
Fourteen countries in Asia gathered to discuss the current situation/HR challenges of SMEs and micro enterprises in their respective economies. Information was exchanged on the activities being carried out by the employers organisations to address these challenges through advocating the development of SMEs human resources as well as direct training provided by the EOs themselves and other programs such as facilitating skills transfer from large organizations to SMEs.
Besides the initiatives of EOs, initiatives on their partnerships with the government, business chambers, unions, private sector, educational institutions or financial institutions were also shared at the 2-day workshop. Through the workshop, participants learnt several strategies from one another and hope to further improve the quality, competitiveness and productivity of SMEs when they return to their home countries.

NICC/Asia Employers’ Organisations Joint-Study Workshop on “Restructuring and Employment Adjustment at the Company Level: Challenges and Opportunities in Industrial Relations in Asia Countries”
This was the first time that the workshop was expanded to bring together the employers’ organisations from ASEAN, East Asia and South Asia.
The workshop discussed how companies dealt with corporate restructuring due to business fluctuations, changes in products and services, market or technology. However, during corporate restructuring, the relationship between employers and employees is tested as tough decisions such as wage cuts and job losses are required to help the business stay competitive.
In-depth discussions were conducted on how to minimise the impact on industrial relations during corporate restructuring.

7th Asia-Pacific High-Level Employers’ Conference
Employers’ organizations from the Asia Pacific region gathered to discuss each organization’s roles, areas of work and strategies to tackle pressing national concerns. The participants shared on how each organization could share information/collaborate with one another on various common issues for the region. Some of the areas discussed were:
• Labour Legislation
• Labour Market Reform – Strategies
• Impact of Privatization on Labour Market
• Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Development Strategies
• Cost of Business
• Demographics
• Education and Training
Moving away from the traditional way of exchanging information at forums only, networks were formed after the conference to continue the process of information sharing.

NICC / ASEAN and China EOs Workshop on “The Use of OSH-Management Systems and Best Practices at Company Level: For Strengthening Corporate Global Competitiveness”
Singapore played host to the Employers Organisations from ASEAN and China for the study workshop organized by NICC in December 2005.
Through the interactive and lively discussions, the Employers’ Organisations shared and examined the established performance of OSH Management Systems in selected enterprises and factors leading to good practices in these enterprises.

Phuket, Thailand, Workshop on the Role and Function of Employers' Organisations
The ACE members came together with other Employers Organisations in the region for a workshop on "Role and Function of Employers' Organisations" in April, at Phuket, Thailand.
The Employers' Organisations were able to benefit from in depth discussion on topics including Communications with members, Research activities, Development of new services, Needs analysis of an employers' organization etc
